What Prism are They Looking Through?

Mashable has a good summary of the fuss in the U.S. about the National Security Agency surveillance of phone metadata and the PRISM program which allows the U.S. to collect data on the internet use of non-Americans, which I assume includes Canadians.

There is a lot of snooping being justified in the name of counter-terrorism. I would not be so concerned if I had any confidence in U.S. legislators. These are after all many of the same people who irrationally oppose gun control.
